Ruby O’Del Barcus Meyer was born May 29, 1912, in Clark County, Iowa to parents, George Emry and Ora Barr Barcus. She moved to Bremer County as a teenager with her parents. It was then that she met Dalton Meyer. She attended Tripoli High School where she played xylophone in concert band. She also won several spelling bees. After high school, she received a degree from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, as well as a diploma from Universal Institute of Indiana.

Ruby was united in marriage with Dalton Meyer on December 18, 1932. Five children, Robert, Joyce, Ronald, Jeanette, and Merlin, were born to this union. She served as the Band Parents president for a couple of years, played the church organ for over thirty-five years, and was very active in Ladies Aid. She did babysit occasionally. Ruby and Dalton bought a farm in Bremer County, near Sumner in 1953, and worked very hard on it. Dalton passed away in 1968, and Ruby moved to town in 1969. She enjoyed playing cards and traveled to all of the states in the union, including Hawaii and Alaska. In November of 2002, she entered the Hillcrest Home in Sumner where she enjoyed playing bingo and cards.

She is survived by three sons, Robert (Ilene) Meyer and Ronald (Dixie) Meyer, both of Sumner, and Merlin (Judy) Meyer of Wright, Minnesota; two daughters, Joyce Kammeyer of Cabot, Arkansas and Jeanette (Marlowe) Hoth of Sumner; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Ruby was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Brenda Hoth; a brother, Harold Barcus; and a son-in-law, Lyle Kammeyer.
